A Tip for You

Hi Everybody.

It has been so long since I posted last.  I am so tired of renovating and packing and moving.  But the end is in sight.  Only have the kitchen floor to finish and that will be done this week.  The big stuff will go on the weekend and then I will be in my little house.

Most of my crafting stuff is already moved, but I wanted to do something creative so I thought I would print out some pics of my beautiful new granddaughter to pop inside a clear Christmas ball and make a "Baby's first Christmas" ornament.  Well, guess what.  The picture I printed turned out horrible.  There was no yellow ink left in the cartridge.  I was not sure if it had dried up or was empty.  So I checked the cartridge by setting it on a moist paper towel for a few minutes.  Yep, it was empty.  No yellow at all.

So here is my tip for you...

If you have a tricolor ink cartridge and one of the colors is used up, you can still get use out of the cartridge.
I have a lot of background images saved on my computer.  I went to the background file and found images that were pink or blue and printed them out on light weight, white cs.
Here is a pic of some of the papers that I printed.

This cost me next to nothing because I have an endless supply of cardstock that I bought a few years ago when the store that I worked for went out of the printing business.  Worked out to less than 1 cent  per sheet.  And I used up the ink that was otherwise useless.
Even if you had to buy cs at reg prices, you can get a ream of lightweight cs at Walmart or Staples very reasonably.  Or you could use 24lb or 28lb text paper and still get the same results.
I got about 40 sheets of background paper out of the ink that was left in the cartridge.
The pic just shows some of the papers.  I did duplicates of the ones I really liked.  My favorite is the denim and that was hidden in the pic.  I have the retired Stampin Up pocket and use the denim paper for that all the time.

I just kept printing paper until the image came out grey.  So, now my cartridge is completely empty and I did not waste any of the ink.

BTW
Here is one of the pics that I wanted to print.  Isn't she adorable?

That is about it for today.  Once I have moved I hope to have time to post regularly.  I have so many cards that I have made and super tips for all of you.

Happy Day to you all.

challenge card

Hi everybody.   I have a quick post today to show you a card I made and want to enter into a couple challenges.

This is a very simple card that is folded at the 5 1/2 inch mark.  The image is one that I won from Teri at Delicious Doodles.  Don't you just love it?  She has the most amazing digi images for sale.  You should check out her site.

I printed the digi on white cs and colored with Prismacolor pencils.  I added the two layers of white punched (Martha Stewart) paper and glued that to the blue cs.  Added the sentiment using a Dollar Giant set of baby stamps.  I inked the edges with the same blue ink and added the bling.
And I was done.  How easy is that.

The challenges I am entering are:

Delicious Doodles Challenge blog -The Woner of Life (you do not have to use her digis to enter)

Unique Crafters Challenge Blog - Anything goes (new blog with a great prize)

Pattie's Creations - Anything goes (must use image digi or stamped)

That is about it for today.  Hope you are all having a good one.

Baby announcements and a little tip

Hi Everybody,

Here is the first baby announcement I have made.  It is very simple, just coloring and layering.  I will try a few different layouts.  Probably do some sponging and try different color base and background paper.  For this card, I used 28 lb bond paper and made an old fashioned 4-fold card.  All the info is on the inside.  I used the digi that Nikki at MelonHeadz made for me.  Don't you love it?  I printed the words with my computer.

I thought I would add a little tip on how I aligne my brads and gems.  I use magic mesh (or in my case, drywall tape).  The square grid makes it so easy to place your bling exactly where you want it.  I have made this little pic so you can see how I line up the edge of the paper with the grid and then use the spaces to place the bling.  I just used paper punces here to show you what I mean.  The mesh has a slight tack so stays in place until all your gems are placed and secure.  Then you can easily remove the mesh.  Love this stuff.  I hope this tip will be helpful to someone.  Any questions, just email me.

That is about it for today.  Hope your Sunday is going well.
Bye for now and take care.

Baby Update

Well, I just have to share some pics of our family's new little person.  Mom and baby came home yesterday.  I was busy travelling back and forth for visits, so did not have time to post until now.  This first pic is of big sister, Camryn and baby, Coen Kenneth.  I was very pleased with the name.  Took a while to warm  to the name Coen.  I had never heard it before.  But I do like it.  And Kenneth was my late husband's name.  Makes it kind of special.

Proud and happy Grandma here.

And had to add a picture of Camryn.  What you see in this picture is what you get.  Just a happy and fun loving little girl.  She will be the best big sister, ever.

I will be making birth announcements and I think I will use this digi stamp from Nikki at Melonheadz.  She made this digi just because I asked for it.  Got to love it.  Nikki has a great website with wonderful, fun digis.  You should check it out.

That is about it for me today.  Weather is good and I have some outside work to do.
Hope you are all having a great day, like I am.  Who can't be happy when the sun is shining and life is good.

We have a baby

My daughter gave birth to a beautiful little boy late this afternoon.  Mom and baby are doing fine.  Big sister is very excited.  The little guy was 4 weeks early but still weighed in at 7 pounds 3 ounces.  Maybe a good thing he did not go full term.
It was a long but very happy day.
Wishing you all Happiness as well.

Everything is a go

I just heard from my daughter.  Her water definitely broke and she is 3 cm. dialated.  They are going to try the gel to bring on labor.  If that does not work, she will get a drip first thing tomorrow morning.  Keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well.  Thanks.
Happy Day.

I'm on pins and needles

Well, I was woken up in the middle of the night by my daughter who dropped her dogs off.  She and my sil were on their way to the hospital(45mins away).  At 36 weeks pregnant, she started leaking amniotic fluid.  It has been 7 hours and I have not heard any thing yet.  I hope everything is going ok.  I will keep you posted .
This is a card I made for a "Summer" challenge at Creative Accents Challenge blog.  It is a simple card that uses a 3-D sheet by Pixiedust.  I can no longer find her website so sorry, I can not give you a link.  Because this is 3-D, it does not scan very well, but the batteries in my camera are dead.  As I look at the scan now, I see I should have sponged the edges of the tag, and I still will do that.  To get the texture in the middle of the background paper, I inserted it into my crimper and only crimped part of the paper.  It gives a nice effect, I think.

I hope you like the card and I hope everyone's summer is going well.
Bye for now and Happy Day to you.
